Welcome to Heartland Services! We are celebrating 45 years of service as a small agency. We lovingly provide services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities therefore our slogan Supporting Individual Choices. Who do we provide services for? Your brother, sister, cousin, aunts, uncles, your child maybe even your mother and father, people you know and love
What services do we provide? Throughout our history we have provided homes where individuals could live with peers living their best life including enjoying being a part of their community. Formerly, we provided child developmental services with amazing results. Currently, we focus on:
- Employment – We are an Employment First agency in Tennessee. Heartland Services contracts with Vocational Rehabilitation and Managed Care Organizations to provide Employment Opportunities for Individuals in Sevier, Jefferson, Blount, Cocke and Greene Counties. We have trained Certified employment specialists to provide Vocational Rehabilitation services such as Supported Employment, Vocational Assessments and Adjustment, Job Placement, Job Coaching and Customized Employment. We are excited to offer Employment & Community First Services for individuals who have been on a lengthy waiting list to receive services. These services offer individuals choices they otherwise would not have the opportunity to explore. Individuals with assistance from a Certified Employment Specialist can explore Employment through Career Advancement, Employment Discovery and Exploration, Integrated Employment Path Services, Job Coaching, Job Development and Career Placement. We have excellent relationships with Dollywood, Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, Weigel’s, Food City and other area employers.
- Supported Living is a living arrangement that is highly supported by the State of Tennessee where 2-3 individuals live together and share living expenses all the while having direct support professionals providing care, guidance, and allowing individuals to choose how to live their best life. Supported Living homes are not owned by Heartland Services. We assist the individuals in leasing their own home in the community and then provide the staffing and oversight for the home. Supported Living services are very individualized with services built on the individuals’ needs and choices while promoting independence.
- Day services provide support to help people discover community possibilities and to develop relationships while increasing skills for independence including life skills, learning to make personal choices and how to be active members of the community.
We were formerly known as Douglas Cooperative but in 2017 decided to change our name to better represent who we are and what we do! We have employees that have been with us on this journey for 37 years. Meet Janet Spencer. Janet has been at Heartland since September 1984. Janet has filled various roles beginning in the day program, job coaching, and working at the group homes, all the while going to school at night to earn her degree. She currently is our Quality Assurance Liaison. Janet views Heartland as family including the individuals we serve and her coworkers. We continue to navigate this ever-evolving way we support our individuals.
